Some of you will notice that your surfing simply slows down while heavy torrent downloads.

I guess the router is unable to handle too much load and it seems forwarding traffic has higher priority over DNS resolution.

So instead of doing an indirect DNS resolution, why not just resolve directly with OpenDNS?

How? Open up a console terminal and paste the following:

sudo nano /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf

Look for “prepend domain-name….” and create a new line after it to add:

prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220;

Exit and save.

Restart your network with the network icon on taskbar or using console.

    I am looking forward to the latest Ubuntu. There are two areas I hope the new version would address:

    1. NVidia support
    For some reason, the bundled driver adds pink glow to my Compiz-fusion desktop. Ugly artifact that requires me to download nVidia linux driver to work-around. This step is not for the faint-hearted casual user.

    2. Firefox-Youtube-crashes
    This is somewhat a famous problem that demonstrates technical-finger-pointing. It seems to be resolved with the latest official release also available for 8.04, current desktop version.

    Time flies, it’s been about six month since my last purchase of Dell Inspiron, and about a year plus of using Ubuntu since 7.04 running off my old PC. My systems show no sign of slowing down, no virus-malware issues despite my various adventurous experimentation with my system. You will NEVER get that with Windows.

    My day job requires me to deal with main-stream Microsoft Windows desktop environments and its related inconveniences. Ubuntu in a way, is form of get-away for me without the need to fork out a sum for a pretty-face like Mac OSX.

    My interest for computing has been enhanced and sustained by this wonderful piece of free Operating-System that is suitable for both casual and advance users. It is about time for bigger PC vendors to incorporate Ubuntu into their machines.

    The experience is awesome so far!
