Recently, I am having much fun with Ubuntu on my old Dell, I was wondering what is stopping me from having the same cool environment on my desktop PC.

Afterall, I have a couple of spare disks lying around, one of which was a replacement Maxtor drive that I managed to get out of the warranty. I had it formatted from my XP about a month ago and left it there.

Few nights ago, I connected it with my external USB SATA/IDE interface with external power, it tripped my house. I thought that it was just a faulty power adapter that blew, man I was wrong!

I tried my luck again yesterday, plugged the same Maxtor disk right into the motherboard and crank up the PC. Within a few seconds, the disk circuit board started to burn (click on picture to see the charred spot).

I will never buy a Maxtor disk again.

Good thing it was only the circuit board that burnt, and not your room! =O
