It was suppose to be my backup drive, yet it “failed” before my internal disk. My hunch tells me modern disk has a higher MTBF.

So I want to prove my hypothesis of a failing USB interface. As i flip the casing, I realized it uses TORX screws which requires special bits to remove these nasty screws.

Three screws came off nicely, but one stubborn one decided it want to be permanently attached to the base. In a fit of anger, I used a piler and ripped off the gray outer cover! It came off after being mutilated by my brute. There was a brief moment that I was so pissed that I had the urge to smash the whole thing.

In case you are thinking I have wasted the harddisk… you are wrong. The data survived! After connecting it directly with my PC with IDE cable, the disk as I’d predicted earlier, is still working fine. Seagate sux…
